Rare Breed Triggers FRT-15 Enhanced Reset Trigger (E3)
SKU: RBT-FRT15 | Price: $330.00
What This Is, Straight Up
This is the Rare Breed FRT-15. It’s a forced-reset trigger (FRT) for your AR-15. If you know, you know. This isn’t a binary. It’s not a bump stock. It’s a mechanically different trigger system that uses the energy from your rifle’s recoil to physically push the trigger forward and reset it. The result is a rate of fire limited only by your bolt’s cycle time and your ability to keep your finger in place. It’s a serious piece of engineering for serious shooters who understand their platform.
We’ve got them in stock. They don’t sit on the shelf long.
How It Works & What It Does
Forget what you know about standard triggers. A mil-spec trigger fires, you release it, a spring pulls it back, you feel the reset, you pull again. The FRT-15 changes the game. When you fire, the bolt carrier group comes back on recoil. A proprietary sear on this trigger catches it. As the bolt goes forward into battery, that interaction forces the trigger forward against your finger, resetting it instantly. You don’t release and pull. You maintain rearward pressure, and the trigger resets itself the moment the bolt is home. This allows for exceptionally fast, controlled strings of fire.
The selector has three positions: Safe, Semi, and what we’ll call the Hard Reset mode. In Semi, it functions like a very crisp, clean single-stage trigger. Flip it to the third position, and the forced-reset mechanism is engaged. It’s that simple.
Build & Features: No Corners Cut
This isn’t a cast or MIM part. This is a precision tool built to handle the forces involved.
- Housing: 7075-T6 aluminum. This is aerospace-grade, the same stuff used for upper and lower receivers. It won’t flex or crack.
- Internal Components: Cut via wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining). This is a high-precision method that creates incredibly accurate, burr-free parts with perfect tolerances.
- Finish: Black Nitride QPQ. This is a surface hardening treatment. It increases wear resistance, reduces friction, and provides corrosion protection. It’s tougher than standard finishes.
- Included Hardware: Comes with a 3-position safety selector and anti-walk pins. You get everything you need for the install in the box.
Installation & Compatibility
Compatibility: Designed for the standard AR-15/M16 platform. It will drop into any mil-spec lower receiver.
Installation: If you’ve installed a drop-in trigger before, you can handle this. It’s a full cassette-style unit. The main thing is paying attention to the orientation of the proprietary sear and ensuring the included anti-walk pins are seated correctly. The instructions are clear. If you’re not comfortable, take it to a competent gunsmith. CRITICAL: After installation, you MUST perform a full function check with the rifle completely unloaded. Check for proper reset in both fire modes and ensure the safety positively blocks the hammer in Safe position. Do not skip this.
Who This Is For (And Who It Isn’t)
This trigger is for experienced AR-15 owners who are mechanically inclined and understand their local and state laws. It’s for shooters who want to explore the mechanical limits of their platform, for competitive shooters in certain disciplines, or for those building a dedicated “fun” or range rifle. It requires more attention to maintenance and ammo quality than a standard trigger.
This is NOT for a beginner’s first build. It is NOT a trigger for a defensive or duty rifle. It is a specialized component for a specific purpose. You are responsible for knowing the legal status of this item in your jurisdiction before purchasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a “machine gun” or an auto-sear?
No. It is a trigger. It fires one round per function of the trigger. The mechanical action of the bolt cycling physically resets the trigger. The shooter must maintain constant rearward finger pressure to fire subsequent rounds. It does not allow for automatic fire where the gun continues to fire with a single pull and hold.
What’s the difference between this and a binary trigger?
A binary trigger fires on the pull and again on the release. The FRT-15 fires on the pull, and the gun itself resets the trigger as the bolt closes. The rhythm and feel are completely different. The FRT’s rate potential is generally higher as it’s tied directly to the bolt’s speed.
Will this work with my .22LR conversion?
No. The forced-reset mechanism requires the full energy and specific bolt carrier profile of a standard 5.56/.223 AR-15. It will not function correctly with a .22LR bolt.
What kind of maintenance does it need?
Keep it clean and lubricated. Carbon buildup can affect the precise sear surfaces. Using a dry-lube or a light coat of quality gun oil on the moving parts is recommended. Inspect it regularly for wear.
